Institute for Problems of Materials Science of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IPMS)


The institute was founded in 1955 and had been the biggest Academy material science institute in former Soviet Union and now is the biggest materials research organization in Ukraine. The staff includes 73 professors, 450 Ph.D., more than 400 engineers, totally 1400 employees. The institute is publisher of the Journals: "Powder metallurgy and ceramics" and "Nanostructured Material Science".

The main scientific schools are: physics of sintering, physico-chemistry and technology of advanced ceramics, phase diagrams of metals and oxides, composites, nanomaterials and nanotechnology, bioceramics.

Key competencies in biomaterial research: phosphate and sulphate based bioactive ceramics and ceramic composites, bioinert ceramics.
